Three Friends

Once in a while we have an experience that we just cannot explain.  It is so unique that it affects you for a long time.  One such time for me, began as a dream.  I don’t remember the setting and a lot of the details but what I do remember stays with me even now, though it occurred several years ago.  It was very specific and I was explaining my three friends to others.  The dream was so real and the names of my friends were specific.  Upon waking, I immediately wrote their names down and wrote the following poem about them.  I hope you are edified by it.

Three Friends

by Vernon Ball

Three friends they were, united by a common bond

Though they differed in many ways, they were as one

Meme Taker was a socialite and a party was her thrill

Her appetite was enormous until she had her fill

Mysel Fish Powers was a politician who wanted to be known

For his leadership skills, but not for the seeds sown

Iwanti Tall was a business man through and through

To make a profit was all he wanted to do

So what was their bond?  Oh can’t you see?

Their focus was on their gain and not what they could be

You’ll recognize them quickly if you really try

They are known by their nicknames, Me, Myself, and I.

translation:

Meme Taker = Me! Me! Its all about me.  If it feels good, do it.                              Passions

Mysel Fish Powers = My Selfish Powers. I can handle it myself.                                Positions

Iwanti Tall = I Want It All. Never mind the morality. What do I get out of it?  Possessions

1John 2:15-16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
